Stata presents workshops on Stata, a statistical system that includes capabilities for estimating time series, panel data, systems of equations, multinomial logit, and other models common in econometrics.

Stata handles instrumental variable estimation and includes methods for dealing with heteroskedasticity and autocorrelated errors. It is an interactive system that includes graphics, and it is useful for exploratory data analysis. It also includes an extensive set of commands for survival analysis and for analyzing survey data.

Introduction to Stata

This class will provide a hands-on introduction to Stata and introduce common data management techniques. You will learn how to navigate Stata’s graphical user interface, create log files, and import data from a variety of software packages. We will also share tips for getting started with Stata including the creation and organization of do-files, examining descriptive statistics, and managing data and value labels.

The duration of the workshop is 3 hours. Computers with Stata installed are available on a first-come, first-served basis (for in-person classes). If you will use your own laptop, please install Stata in advance. Stata downloads for FAS affiliates are available at https://downloads.fas.harvard.edu. HBS faculty, staff, and students can request a license from RCS via this online form.

Notes and materials for this workshop are available on our Training Materials page.

  • Audience: Harvard Faculty, Students, and Staff are all welcome
  • Pre-Requisites: None
  • Software Version: Stata version >= 16, available for FAS affiliates from https://downloads.fas.harvard.edu/

  • Late Drop/Cancel Fee: None
Regression and Graphing in Stata

This hands-on class will provide a comprehensive introduction to graphics in Stata. Topics for the class include graphing principles, descriptive graphs, linear regression, factor variables, and post-estimation graphs. This is an introductory workshop appropriate for those with only basic familiarity with Stata.

Notes and materials for this workshop are available on our Training Materials page.

  • Audience: Harvard Faculty, Students, and Staff all welcome
  • Pre-Requisites: General familiarity with Stata (such as having taken the Introduction to Stata workshop)
