2017 was a busy year at HBS. Below, relive some of the highlights, including Dean Nitin Nohria's address to the Class of 2017, the launch of the new MS/MBA Joint Degree Program with the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), MBA students at the White House, and more. MBA students recall their experiences working in the nation's capital, and what it taught them about life, leadership, and patriotism. The program, which confers an MBA from HBS and an Master of Science (MS) in Engineering Sciences from SEAS, is designed to train future leaders of technology ventures by providing a strong foundation in general management, building design skills, and extending students’ understanding of engineering. Terrance Rogers (MBA 2017) talks about why he decided to come to Harvard Business School (even though he didn’t know anything about business school) and how he believes he can make a difference through the private sector. Raised by a single mom who worked long hours in manufacturing, Rogers looks forward to having a seat at the table in the business world and standing up for hardworking people like his mom. Andrew Cone (MBA 2017) gave this year’s student class day address on May 24. He studied art and architecture at Harvard College and worked in marketing and brand strategy at Ogilvy & Mather before coming to HBS. After graduation, he will spend one year in strategic planning at The Whitney Museum of American Art as an HBS Leadership Fellow. At the 2017 Harvard Business School Commencement, Dean Nitin Nohria addressed graduates, offering words of advice for the future. Six faculty members talk about how they identify and explore the ideas that fuel their teaching and influence business practice. More than 900 first-year students in the Technology & Operations Management (TOM) class are challenged to consider some big questions around climate change. They are asked to reflect on these questions and challenges, write and post their responses to an open blog, and consider the input and additional insights of their peers by reading and responding to their blog posts. Students come together in class to participate in a dynamic exchange, and ultimately leave informed, impassioned, and committed to helping solve this critical challenge. |
