Mihir Desai, professor of finance at Harvard Business School, says that a systematic study he co-authored that uses relative economic growth rates to identify the relationship between foreign and domestic activity shows that a company that increases overseas investment by 10 per cent typically expands its domestic investment by 2.6 per cent.
