For Siemens and Other Companies, Apprentice Programs Seen as Alternative to College

When Siemens wanted to find U.S. workers to build gas turbines, only 15 percent of those who applied had the skills needed. To bridge the skills gap, the company started an apprentice program to develop the mechanical and technical abilities called middle skills. It is a model for other companies as well.
