“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
I want to light up the world.

Like fireworks in the sky. Or sunrises over the ocean. Or campfires in the woods.

My eleven-year-old brother fought the darkness of cancer with his light – through his bright spirit and radiant attitude. The flash of his smile as he crossed the finish line ahead of me in yet another MarioKart race in his hospital room. Or the gleam in his eye when he told me he was going to beat me in the race to Heaven. He did. And though Tim lost his life, he forever changed mine.

I want to change lives through that same light. To be the spark of energy in the corporate office. To be the empathetic friend in the coffee shop. To be the passionate father and basketball coach in the rec center. To be the selfless, loving husband in my home. My roles and relationships will be lamps – means of illuminating the world around me.

I want to shine. To inspire hope where there is none. To create environments for people to reach their full potential. To listen, learn, and reflect. To laugh, refresh spirits, and encourage hearts. And to love God with all my mind, heart, soul and strength.

Like lightning that rips through the darkness.
