“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

“You can always come back home” said my mum as we lugged my suitcases into my college dorm room in the big city.

‘Why would I?’ I thought to myself. I come from a small town where a new bakery opening makes the local paper and you run into your old teacher at the supermarket. I have bigger dreams, that need bigger cities, no, bigger countries to achieve.

Somehow, I have wound up here at HBS living the American Dream. But instead of grasping all that there is to offer, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about home. It is a small, beautiful, close-knit country with an outsized impact on the world: you will find our milk in your stores and our leaders on your screens. Why would I not want to be a part of continuing to build on that?

Aotearoa (New Zealand). Kāinga (Home). I can’t wait to come back home and lead.
