“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Live every day knowing that someone will write my eulogy tomorrow.

On a dark night over the Adriatic several years ago my best friend lost his bearings and flew his jet into the water, disappearing without a trace. Barely a day goes by when I don't imagine what Trey might be doing right now if he were still around. His friendship was among the many things I took for granted, but the hundreds of people at his memorial service reminded me of the profound impact one man's life can have.

I hope for success and good fortune like any of us, but I don't want to end up a decade down the road wondering where my life went. I pray every night that I can pass the "man in the mirror" test and succeed as husband, father, brother and friend. We all leave a trace in the world. I hope that if I keep the end in mind the rest will follow.
