“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
"Dream big!" was the advice that Kirsten Moss, HBS admissions director, gave us at the welcome address in January 2001.

"How big is big?" I asked myself, feeling excited yet a bit overwhelmed by the high expectations.

Still uncertain of the "right" answer to that question, now, days before graduation, I know this: I want to make a significant positive impact in every one of my relationships and in each of my communities:

  • I will be a loving son, brother, husband, and parent and share that extra smile, make it to that far-away birthday party, check out Mickey Mouse with the kiddos!
  • When that 3 a.m. call comes in from a friend in distress, I will stand loyal and lend a helping hand.
  • As a grateful mentee, I will continue to make people like Bob, that HBS '85 who helped me get here, proud of placing their trust in me.
  • In my Romanian community, I will be a great mentor to others who need that extra bit of encouragement to tackle the difficult challenge of shifting to the US as business professionals.
  • As a turnaround executive, I will relentlessly pursue the mission of working with crippled companies like Kmart, Xerox, and Enron to restore value for their shareholders, creditors, and employees.
  • As a citizen of the world, I will continue to raise money for those causes that balance economic progress with social responsibility.

Finally, I will learn how to cook a cheesecake. I love cheesecake. 'Coz it's fat-free!
