“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
Modern medical technology gave me a chance to be happy and healthy when I was young. I want to make sure others have the same chance and privilege. I was born with a dislocated hip that was saved only by modern medicine – it changed my life forever. When I think of the millions of people in the US who lack access to life-saving and life-changing technologies, or the billions in the world who lack access to even basic care, I want to be a part of the solution to this problem by working with policy and public health experts to create a more equitable healthcare system.
As I pursue this dream and others, like starting my own family and writing a book, I hope do so with a commitment to my values and beliefs. I believe in respect for all people and their traditions, in treating others with dignity and compassion, in pursuing love and friendship with an open heart and mind, in placing my family and friends as my highest priority, and in forgiveness – because no person is perfect. I will lead an amazing life if these ideas are my guide.
