“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
I want whatever I do to make my socks go up and down. It's like cartoon characters: when they get excited or see something they love, their socks go up and down. I want to find such a job, whether it's selling Cheerios, doing something to improve the education system on which society seems to have settled, starting an organization that enables disadvantaged high-school kids to live abroad, or opening a bakery to which people delight in coming. I want to fall in love with the guy who makes my socks go up and down and start a family that makes my socks go up and down. I want to bring friends together at the table for meals that make their socks go up and down. I want to try new things while still having the courage to put on the ballet shoes tossed aside when hockey skates became more exciting my first year in college. And if I fall down along the way, I hope to keep dancing.
