“You have to relearn how to be a student, and you have piles of cases to read. ”

Why did you choose this path at this point in time?

I’ve seen how different companies and leaders tackle problems. I had a perspective on what approaches I liked and didn’t like, but wanted to really define for myself what an effective leader is. I came to HBS to learn how to be an effective leader and gain the skills necessary to support that leadership journey.

Coming to HBS is like…

Diving straight into the deep end. Everything is new when you get to HBS – you meet some of the kindest and most interesting people, you have to relearn how to be a student, and you have piles of cases to read. It can feel like you’re thrown into the deep end, but you figure out how to swim pretty quickly!

Being part of the HBS community is like…

A breath of fresh air. While working, I really missed being in an academic setting where everyone is curious and always eager to learn. The HBS community is the purest form of that type of environment.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A teacher.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

Lining up my stuffed animals and teaching them math in pursuit of my dream to become a teacher.

Who is one person from your life that you admire the most today?

My grandfather. He taught me the importance of having strong personal values and letting those guide your decisions in life.

What’s the best thing about your hometown?

Hands down, the food. Los Angeles has every kind of cuisine you can imagine and it is almost impossible to have a bad meal.
