“I keep looking for ways to grow deeper friendships with those in my existing community.”

Why did you choose this path at this point in time?

Under COVID, the world is full of uncertainty. The MBA helped place certainty into my life and compelled me to pause and reflect on new paths and opportunities for the future. I got married soon after finding out I got into HBS. This two-year period gives us time to be home with more space to enjoy our new life together. Additionally, entrepreneurs are always taking risks. HBS has inspired me to be bold and make decisions knowing that I will always have the security of an MBA to fall back on if any venture doesn’t work out.

Coming to HBS is like…

Stepping into the Matrix and discovering that there is another world you never knew existed. Unlike the Matrix though, it's real.

Being part of the HBS community is like…

Being on a treasure hunt for awesome people you could call your friends for life. I keep finding new people to add to my community and stay looking for ways to grow deeper friendships with those in my existing community.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A lawyer. I always wanted to stand in a court and defend people and send bad guys to jail.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

Going on long car trips with South African jazz music playing in the background. My family would fit six people in a five-seater car, and I would sit in the middle squeezed between my older brother and two sisters. I would often sit forward and just watch the road for hours as my dad drove the car. We were always moving forward, always safe, and always sure we would get to our end destination

Who is one person from your life that you admire the most today?

My mother. She completed several degrees while raising a family. We always went to sleep well fed, warm, and feeling safe. She always emphasized that all of her children should go to school and study hard and not let the expenses of education deter us from dreaming big.

What’s the best thing about your home town?

The best thing about Polokwane in South Africa’s Limpopo province is the people and how easygoing they are, how respectful they are towards others, and how much they love the Pedi language and food.
