The HBS Global Opportunity Fellowship (GO:Africa) supplements the income of graduates who work in Africa with a total compensation of less than $120,000 USD per year. This fellowship supports graduates in pursuing career opportunities in Africa immediately following graduation.
Supporting leaders who want to make a difference in Africa
The HBS mission is to “educate leaders who make a difference in the world.” GO:Africa has grown out of that mission. HBS offers a variety of career support programs for eligible students that provide financial assistance for those who choose careers in which starting salaries are lower than those of typical MBA graduates. This award is intended to support students who want to make an impact specifically in Africa.
GO:Africa awards and evaluation criteria
The award amount is designed to bridge the gap between the Fellowship recipient’s annual salary and $120,000 USD, with a maximum initial award of up to $50,000 USD. Beginning with the class of 2018, graduating students are eligible for the Fellowship for up to 5 years after graduation. In each year that a recipient's GO Fellowship is renewed, the maximum potential award amount for which they are eligible decreases by $10,000 USD, with a lifetime total capped at $150,000.
To be considered for GO:Africa, second-year students and recent HBS alumni complete the Global Opportunity Fellowship application, including an essay and details about their job offers and career plans.
