Harvard Business School (HBS) has announced the 2023-2024 cohort of Blavatnik Fellows. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the Blavatnik Fellowship in Life Science Entrepreneurship was launched in 2013 as part of a gift to Harvard University from the Blavatnik Family Foundation. In my second year of undergrad at Tulane University, I started thinking about life after graduation. I had always loved the intersection of science and business and was pursuing a dual degree in both Chemical Engineering and Management. I decided to take some time to research ways I could further both my interests and stumbled across HBS’s MS/MBA Biotechnology: Life Sciences program, which seemed like a perfect fit for me. As a joint degree student, I benefit from immersive case studies at HBS where my classmates and I are challenged to analyze the business and ethical considerations of each managerial decision. On the other hand, at the Harvard Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology department, we interrogate scientific papers and consider the business case for the commercialization of cutting-edge science. For the last 25 years, the Harvard Business School New Venture Competition has provided a forum for founders trying to tackle some of the world’s most challenging business problems. Student and alumni founders refine their ideas through giving pitches, receiving feedback from established and experienced investors and entrepreneurs, and ultimately competing for cash prizes and support services.
