Our project was to design an innovative retail channel for young farmers graduating from the Agro-Ecology program at the Sustainability Institute to sell their produce. During the immersion, we set out to better understand existing channels, our customers - the young farmers, and the context of life and doing business in Cape Town, South Africa.

Did some field research in Cape Town by visiting a local grocery store and farmer’s market to check out their respective produce ranges and quality.

We ventured over to Oranjezicht City Farm and met with Kurt Ackermann, one of the co-founders), to talk about his experience running the urban farm as well as a related farmer’s market in the city. The non-profit farm, which sits at the base of Table Mountain, promotes healthy eating and helps employ and sustain the local community.

After we were finished, we caught the last wine tasting at DeMorgenzon Wine Estate nearby.
