Fox pioneered the vertical integration of the film industry by merging production, distribution, and exhibition under single ownership. Fox, along with Adolph Zukor, of Paramount Pictures, is largely recognized for making Hollywood the movie capital of the world. Fox’s first production was "Carmen" starring Theda Bara in 1915. In the late 1920s, Fox competed vigorously with Warner Brothers, the only other studio involved in sound production. Fox is credited with producing such movie classics as Cleopatra, Les Miserables, and Tale of Two Cities.
