Bell diversified American Cyanamid, developing the company into the 5th largest producer of chemicals in the U.S., manufacturing over 5,000 products. Bell developed new processes for the commercial production of prussiate of soda, dycyandiamide, guanidine rubber accelerators, and alklyd type coating resins, as well as melamine resins, which were used in making work surfaces impervious to scratches and stains. During the 1940s and 50s, Bell also expanded American Cyanamid's activities in drug research and production.
