Anderson parlayed a small oil business in New Mexico into one of the largest and most successful oil businesses in the United States. From 1966 to 1982, through acquisitions and strategic diversification, Anderson grew revenues 20-fold (from $1 billion to over $20 billion). During his tenure, ARCO discovered and developed the largest oil field in North America.
