Lehman firmly hitched the bank’s future to consumption rather than production, and in so doing, he led Lehman Brothers to the number one position among New York investment firms. Under his leadership, the bank concentrated its investments on airlines, entertainment (radio and motion pictures) and retailing. He was also the first one to invite non-family members to become partners in the firm.
