Sorensen led Perkin-Elmer to become one of the premier diversified technology companies in the United States. It developed the first commercial super minicomputer in 1979. During his CEO tenure, sales and earnings more than tripled and Perkin-Elmer grew to become the largest supplier of production equipment for the semiconductor industry and the largest producer of analytical instruments.
