Beginning with a self-made rubber hunting boot, Bean created a retailing giant and became one of the pioneers of the mail-order industry, introducing the first Bean’s catalog in 1914. He instilled a “customer first” culture with generous return and service policies that have continued to permeate the organization for over 85 years.
