Bache took over his uncle’s brokerage business and built it into one of the premier financial services firms in the early decades of the twentieth century. His operation helped to facilitate the reorganization of the American Spirits Manufacturing Company and the Cosmopolitan Fire Insurance Company. He helped to attract middle-class investors to the brokerage business and prior to World War I, Bache & Company maintained the largest private wire system in the United States.
