Massey founded Hospital Corporation of America in 1968 at the age of 64. Under his leadership, HCA went on to become the largest owner and operator of hospitals in the United States. A successful venture capitalist, Massey had the unique distinction of listing three corporations on the New York Stock Exchange. In addition to HCA, Massey took Kentucky Fried Chicken public and subsequently, listed Volunteer Capital Corporation (a holding company of Wendy’s fast food franchises).
