Dow Chemicals began by producing bleaching powder as its main product. Through Dow’s inventiveness, Dow Chemical expanded dramatically, especially with the discovery of many uses for brine. Dow manufactured insecticides, oxychloride for stucco, light metals, and iodine for commercial use, as well as mustard gas and other war chemicals for the government. By 1930, Dow produced more than 200 products, which were sold in the U.S. and Canada.
