Heinz II engineered immense growth for the food products firm. In his first few years as president, Heinz took advantage of the postwar boom in the American economy and took the firm public in 1946. Through an extensive and well-planned set of acquisitions and other investments, Heinz also established international divisions. Similar expansion also took place in the United States, as the company acquired Star-Kist Foods in 1963 and Ore-Ida Foods in 1965. Jack Heinz’s tenure not only marked the company’s first real foray into international acquisitions but was overall one of its most lucrative periods of expansion.
