Alexander changed the way in which the Morgan bank did business. Before Alexander, the Morgan bank did not solicit business. Alexander used greater aggressiveness in the development of new business by training a new generation of employees, known as "bird dogs," to pursue business that had previously come in by itself. His greatest achievement was the merger of JP Morgan with the Guaranty Bank. Prior to the merger, Alexander served as the chief executive of JP Morgan & Company from 1950-1959.
