Gibbons was one of the early pioneers in the software development industry. While working at Hewlett-Packard, he developed the Pfs:file software suite which enabled Apple Computer users to manage a host of productivity applications. Gibbons took his company public in 1984, which was one of the first high-flying tech-based IPOs. In the late eighties, Gibbons introduced Harvard Graphics which soon dominated the market for high-end graphic presentation software on multiple platforms. Though Software Publishing was later eclipsed by other software giants, Gibbons helped create the initial foundation for the industry’s remarkable growth.
