Doubleday founded one of the most successful and enduring publishing companies in the United States. He acquired a series of specialty publishing companies including Garden City Publishing Company, Doran Book Shops, and the Crime Club. Doubleday was most known for his publication of influential writers including Rudyard Kipling, Joseph Conrad, Kathleen Norris and O. Henry.
