- Industry: Restaurants & Lodging
- Era: 1900
Having made a small fortune in the restaurant business, Statler opened his first hotel in 1907. Unlike most other hotels of the early 1900s, Statler’s hotels, of which there were 6 by the time of his death, had many rare traits: private bathrooms, personal telephones, and later, radios, in every room. Statler’s genius in providing luxury-like amenities to middle and working class people helped his hotel chain become popular with every day Americans.
