- Industry: Transportation
- Era: 1930
Prior to purchasing Eastern in 1938, Rickenbacker had successful careers in automobile racing and the auto industry at large, in addition to his distinguished service in the United States military in World War I. Once joining Eastern though, Rickenbacker devoted all of his efforts to creating an efficient and profitable airline. Despite the less than stellar reputation it had among consumers, Eastern held a monopoly on most of its routes and was consistently profitable during Rickenbacker’s tenure.
