Though Tandy Corporation was a successful leather goods company, Charles Tandy’s biggest accomplishment was his revitalization of Radio Shack. Acquiring the company with $4.5 million in debt and almost $1 million in largely uncollectible receivables, Tandy assembled a team of lawyers to settle the accounting problems and then secured financing for much needed expansion. Drastically reducing Radio Shack’s store size and streamlining inventory while introducing company-branded products, Tandy’s Radio Shack grew to have more than 2,800 stores in 1973 and revenues grew to $10 billion by 1975.
