Laemmle, one of the most outstanding figures in Hollywood, created the “star” system that was to dominate American filmmaking. He consolidated independent studios and was responsible for the development of countless movie stars. Laemmle founded his own producing company in Universal City, which was the first municipality solely devoted to the production of films and became the principal movie-making set of its time.
