Through numerous acquisitions, Harper made ConAgra one of the premier food consolidators in America. He expanded its sales from $636 million in 1974 to $9 billion in 1987. Among other products, ConAgra offered frozen-food (sales increased 60% between 1979 and 1985) and poultry to consumers and fast-food chains (about 10% of the market in 1985).
