L. Lowry Mays
Beginning with one small radio station in 1972, Mays went on to create a massive media empire under the name Clear Channel Communications. Mays was particularly aggressive in acquiring new entities as deregulation spread to the radio and telecommunications industries. By the end of his CEO tenure, Clear Channel Communications owned close to 1,300 radio stations, 40 television stations, and 790,000 outdoor advertising displays.
