A mix of remote work and in-person activities will be the School’s approach as 2021 begins.

Faculty, students, and staff all must follow the Campus Access Protocol.

Coming to Campus

Access to public spaces on campus is permitted for students and their partners, faculty, and staff with Harvard ID card access. Visitors and guests are discouraged.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I come to campus?

For students: All HBS students may come to campus without additional permissions to use public spaces as long as physical distancing is maintained and face coverings are worn. Doctoral students looking to use their offices should email Jen Mucciarone.

For faculty and staff: For faculty and staff: Staff are primarily working remotely until further notice, although essential personnel—including staff working to support the delivery of our educational programs and other core functions—are coming to campus. Staff should continue to discuss their need and plans for on-campus work with their manager; throughout the winter and spring, as safety and conditions warrant, on-campus activities (e.g., working at School one day a week) will be encouraged. Based on current demand, those faculty who have completed the Campus Access Protocol are able to come to campus to teach and use their offices. For faculty and staff, the School’s approach may change should Harvard, Boston, or Massachusetts indicate the need for higher or lower occupancy rates.

For Executive Education participants: Specific information on campus access will be posted once timing is set for the return of on-campus Executive Education programs. At this time, due to continued strong interest in HBS Executive Education, we have developed a set of virtual programs as part of our portfolio, with more information here: HBS Executive Education Virtual Programs.

For Visitors & Guests: Visitors and guests are strongly discouraged from coming to campus at this time. Those who do must receive prior approval and complete the Campus Access Protocol.

Anyone coming to campus must complete the Campus Access Protocol.

I just need to make a brief visit. Can I come to campus quickly to pick something up?

All individuals coming to campus must receive advance permission and complete the Campus Access Protocol. Campus buildings are locked and will require a Harvard ID card access.

Some of my coworkers will be returning to campus, but I’m not sure I need to or if I’m comfortable doing so. What should I do?
A colleague’s return to campus does not imply or necessitate your own. If you are being encouraged to come to campus but do not feel it is warranted, you should speak with your manager or unit head. The same is true if you have concerns about returning to campus for personal safety and well-being reasons.
Will I need to go through any checkpoints when I get to campus?
No, though this may change as Harvard explores testing and monitoring protocols.

Testing

Harvard University Health Services is supporting recurring weekly tests. We have partnered with Color and the Broad Institute to bring you self-administered, unobserved testing. Anyone—students, faculty, or staff—authorized to be on campus more than 4 hours per week should plan to incorporate testing into their campus access protocol. More on testing.

Campus Access Protocol

All individuals must receive advance approval and complete the Campus Access Protocol, including Crimson Clear, training and a checklist, prior to visiting campus.

Visitors & Guests

Visitors and guests are strongly discouraged from coming to campus at this time. Those who do must receive prior approval and complete the Campus Access Protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are HBS partners considered Visitors or Guests when accessing campus?
Partners of our MBA and Doctoral students are considered full members of our HBS Community and are treated as students in terms of campus access. They are not considered visitors or guests. Partners coming to the HBS campus are required to follow the guidelines outlined in our Campus Access Protocol. If they haven’t done so already, we also encourage students to register their partners with the MBA and Doctoral program office, even if at this moment the partner does not anticipate coming to the HBS campus. Please contact partners@hbs.edu with any additional questions.
