The Opportunity
Paramount to the success of HBS IT, and any organization, is a well-rounded, consistent, continually developing management team. HBS IT is committed to helping its leaders, and staff, develop and grow their skills. This initiative was developed to help drive the development of our leaders with a focus on driving consistency across the organization and allowing these vital members of our organization to grow, develop, and thrive.
Leaders equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge are better prepared to navigate the complexities of the business landscape, drive innovation, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
The Solution
This project aims to establish a comprehensive and consistent approach to competency-based training, development, and evaluation for people managers within our organization. By identifying and focusing on the critical skills necessary for effective management and leadership in HBS IT, we seek to enhance the skills of our leaders and their teams to drive organizational success. Examples of some competencies include organizational change management, decision making, communications, financial literacy, and team leadership.
This initiative will provide HBS IT leaders with structured training options to curate and address specific needs based on identified competencies. Various development resources, such as workshops, online courses, mentoring programs, and direct project assignments will be provided. These options will support leaders in prioritizing their focus areas through the existing HBS IT professional development process.
The Impact
The tangible outcome of this initiative will be the development of a core list of leadership and management competencies that matter most at HBS IT and an aligned set of development opportunities that will provide each member of our leadership with a pathway to success. We also hope both managers and emerging leaders across the organization will embrace the competencies and seek to grow their own skills in these areas.
Progress will be reviewed against these skills as managers work through the competencies and available development options to ensure they are helping us achieve our organizational goals.
