Sir Ronald Cohen

Sir Ronald M. Cohen is Chair of the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment and The Portland Trust, Chair of Impact-Weighted Accounts Initiative Advisory Council, co-founder director of Social Finance UK, USA, and Israel, co-founder Chair of Bridges Fund Management and Big Society Capital, co-founder and Chair of British Venture Capital Association and co-founder of European Venture Capital Association.

Sir Ronald Cohen is a pioneering philanthropist, venture capitalist, private equity investor, and social innovator, who is driving forward the global Impact Revolution.

For nearly two decades, his ground-breaking initiatives have catalyzed global efforts to drive private capital to serve social and environmental good.

He serves as Chairman of the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment and The Portland Trust. He is a co-founder of Social Finance UK, USA, and Israel; and co-founder Chair of Bridges Fund Management and former co-founding Chair of Big Society Capital.

He chaired the G8 Social Impact Investment Taskforce (2013-2015), the UK Social Investment Task Force (2000-2010) and the UK’s Commission on Unclaimed Assets (2005-2007).

In 2012 he received the Rockefeller Foundation’s Innovation Award for Social Finance.

He was a co-founder and Executive Chairman of Apax Partners Worldwide LLP (1972-2005), a global private equity firm. He was a co-founder and Chairman of the British Venture Capital Association and a co-founder of the European Venture Capital Association.

He is a member of the Board of Dean’s Advisors at Harvard Business School; a former director of the Harvard Management Company; and formerly a member of the Harvard University Board of Overseers and the University of Oxford Investment Committee.

He graduated from Oxford University, where he was President of the Oxford Union. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School to which he was awarded a Henry Fellowship.

Clara Barby

Clara is currently serving as Chief Executive of the Impact Management Project: a forum for building global consensus on how to measure and manage impact. As a Partner at Bridges Fund Management, Clara previously led the firm’s impact strategy throughout the investment cycle and across fund types – from defining the strategy and process for selecting investments, to engaging with portfolio companies to create additional value through environmental and social factors, to tracking and reporting results to our investors and other stakeholders. In addition to growing impact through Bridges’ funds, Clara also led Bridges Impact+’s research and development efforts to promote the growth of the wider sustainable and impact investment sector.

Prior to Bridges, Clara focused her career on investing in innovative high-impact businesses – most recently on the management team of an India-based healthcare chain and Acumen portfolio company. Clara previously worked for Acumen’s Capital Markets team in New York where she played a lead role in designing an innovative investment vehicle and later co-led the Acumen energy portfolio in India. Before Acumen, Clara worked in Colombia, promoting socially responsible investment.

Clara holds a BA (Hons) in Greats from Oxford University and an MBA from INSEAD.

Karen joined Bridgewater in 2006 and heads Investment Research. She oversees teams of investors developing systematic insights on global markets and economies and is a regular author of Bridgewater’s Daily Observations, with a focus on fixed income, monetary and fiscal policy, money and credit flows and portfolio construction. Karen also leads Bridgewater’s ESG research and sustainable investing efforts. Karen received her AB from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs with a Certificate in Finance. She is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and serves on the Board of Seeds of Peace, a nonprofit cultivating young leaders to transform conflict in the Middle East and South Asia. Karen was included in Fortune’s 40 Under 40 most influential leaders in business.
