Principle Investigators

Shawn Cole
John G. McLean Professor of Business Administration
Shawn Cole is a professor in the Finance Unit at Harvard Business School, where he teaches and conducts research on financial services, social enterprise, and impact investing. Much of his research examines corporate and household finance in emerging markets, with a focus on insurance, credit, and savings. He has also done extensive work on financial education in the US and emerging markets. His recent research focuses on designing and delivering advice and education over mobile phones, with an emphasis on agricultural and financial management.

Josh Lerner
Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Investment Banking Unit Head, Entrepreneurial Management
Josh Lerner is the Head of the Entrepreneurial Management Unit and the Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Investment Banking at Harvard Business School. He graduated from Yale College with a special divisional major that combined physics with the history of technology. He worked for several years on issues concerning technological innovation and public policy at the Brookings Institution, for a public-private task force in Chicago, and on Capitol Hill. He then earned a Ph.D. from Harvard's Economics Department.
Josh Lerner is the Head of the Entrepreneurial Management Unit and the Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Investment Banking at Harvard Business School. He graduated from Yale College with a special divisional major that combined physics with the history of technology. He worked for several years on issues concerning technological innovation and public policy at the Brookings Institution, for a public-private task force in Chicago, and on Capitol Hill. He then earned a Ph.D. from Harvard's Economics Department.

T. Robert Zochowski III
Rob is the Director and Senior Researcher for The Impact-Weighted Accounts Project and the Social Impact Collaboratory at Harvard Business School. Previously, Rob was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs where he had roles in Investment Product Innovation, Strategy & Development, Alternative Investment Strategies, and Private Wealth Management. Rob has consulted with the National MS Society and the World Wildlife Fund and was a 2019 Three Cairns Climate Fellow focused on mitigating the environmental effects of charcoal use in Mozambique. Rob received his MBA from Columbia Business School in the Executive Program where he concentrated on Social Enterprise and Impact Investing, graduating Deans Honors with Distinction (top 10%). He was featured in Poets and Quants annual 100 Best & Brightest Executive MBAs list. Rob is the 2019 recipient of the Carson Family Changemaker Award which recognizes commitment to the field of social enterprise. Rob earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Georgetown University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

M. Diane Burton
Faculty member in the ILR School at Cornell University
M. Diane Burton is a faculty member in the ILR School at Cornell University. Her primary appointment is in human resource studies with courtesy appointments in organizational behavior and sociology. Prior to joining the Cornell faculty in 2009, she was a faculty member at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Diane started her academic career at the Harvard Business School teaching leadership and organizational behavior. She earned her Ph.D. in sociology at Stanford University and served as a lecturer and researcher in organizational behavior and human resources management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
M. Diane Burton is a faculty member in the ILR School at Cornell University. Her primary appointment is in human resource studies with courtesy appointments in organizational behavior and sociology. Prior to joining the Cornell faculty in 2009, she was a faculty member at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Leslie Jeng
Director of Research of the Private Capital Research Institute
Leslie Jeng is Director of Research of the Private Capital Research Institute and the Charles Williams Fellow at the Harvard Business School. She has been with the PCRI since its inception. Prior to joining the PCRI, Leslie was an assistant professor of Finance and Economics at Boston University School of Management and taught at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Her areas of interests are Corporate Finance, Financial Institutions and Regulation, International Finance, and Public Policy. Also, Leslie has worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and quantitative investment research at Arrowstreet Capital. Leslie received her BS and BA degrees in Finance and Mathematics from the Wharton School/University of Pennsylvania and her PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University.

Her work focuses on studying the empirical realities of impact investing, including industry trends as well as the financial and organizational practices of impact investors and impact companies. Christina holds a doctorate in Sociology from Boston University, where she specialized in gender and political sociology, an M.A. in Regional Studies: Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia from Harvard University, and a B.A. in Government from Cornell University. Her doctoral research is set to be published in Feminist Review.
