Chyei (pronounced like “Shay”) Vinluan is a Postdoctoral Fellow Of Business Administration in both the Negotiation, Organizations, and Markets and Organizational Behavior Units at Harvard Business School.

Dr. Vinluan’s research examines the relationship between 1) the cognitive processes underlying racial categorization and stereotyping and 2) experiences of encountering stereotypes and discrimination. More importantly, she examines these processes among individuals who are considered to be less prototypical racial category members to understand the diversity across and within racial categories. Her research on less prototypical racial category members focuses on 1) multiracial people (i.e., individuals with multiple racial identities), 2) women of color (i.e., individuals with multiple stigmatized identities), and 3) Southeast Asian Americans (individuals with underrepresented Asian ethnicities). Her research approach includes applying frameworks at the intersection of social-cognitive, sociological, and organizational behavior theories and applying multi-method (e.g., experimental and field studies, archival data) and multi-analytical (e.g., multi-level regression, meta-analysis) techniques. 

Dr. Vinluan earned a Ph.D. and M.S. in Experimental Psychology from Tufts University and a B.S. in Biology and Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Prior to graduate school, she was a Teaching Fellow in the Psychology Department of UIC.
