Abstract

In 2023 a set of scholars set out to study the effect of artificial intelligence (AI) on the quality and productivity of knowledge workers—in this specific instance, management consultants. They wanted to know across a range of tasks in a workflow, which, if any, would AI prove to be helpful for and to what extent. Among what the scholars found was what they called a “jagged frontier.” Their findings suggests that workers across industries might be wise to do the same. This hands-on exercise invites participants to find the “jagged frontier” for their workflow, for the time being. It can be used on its own or as preparation for in-class activities, including paired with an effort to find the jagged frontier for the course subject matter.
