Abstract

Set in San Francisco in winter 2023, this case explores the strategic challenges and initiatives at Lyft under the leadership of its new CEO, David Risher. Confronted with declining market share and financial pressures, Risher spent his first six months at the helm revitalizing the company through both product innovation—exemplified by the Women+ Connect feature—and operational efficiency. He also pushed on brand differentiation and rebuilding investor confidence. As Risher considers the strategic direction for 2024, he faces the challenge of balancing innovation with the need to stabilize and strengthen the organization, all while navigating a competitive landscape dominated by Uber.
