Finding New Business and Developing Relevant Sales Capabilities
Abstract
There are few alternatives to growth for most companies. It’s the rare firm whose goal involves getting smaller and, for employees, there is a strong correlation between their company’s growth rate, promotion opportunities, and job satisfaction. But a growth strategy must be intentional, clarifying where the growth will come from and what it requires in terms of business development. This article discusses the different Sales and Marketing implications of the options embedded in the classic Ansoff growth matrix. The message is that you cannot separate sales or marketing effectiveness from strategic choices and, when a company does that, it is making a random bet, not strategy implementation.
