Abstract

Daily ups and downs of the market are often driven by changes in interest-rate expectations and investor risk aversion. But over the long run, it's often technological change that is the primary driver of value. A decade ago, Tyler Cowen argued in his book The Great Stagnation that we were near the end of a long period of relatively modest technological change, and recent developments in areas like AI and biotech make it seem that rapid advancement is indeed finally arriving. In the linked essay we argue that a newly announced product from Apple may be more of a game-changer than many realize.
