India Stack: Digital Public Infrastructure for All
By: Tarun Khanna, Anjali Raina and Rachna Chawla
Abstract
In the year of India's presidency of the G20 Amitabh Kant India Sherpa and Nandan Nilekani iconic tech entrepreneur wondered how to share India's model of digital public infrastructure to build social and economic inclusion. 'India Stack', the umbrella term for India's DPI architecture, built public rails on which private innovation had flourished transforming India in less than a decade. India leapfrogged traditional development processes creating financial inclusion, catalysing a start-up ecosystem, democratizing access to the internet and changing India from an offline, cash, informal, low productivity economy to an online, cashless, formal, high productivity economy. Kant and Nilekani wondered what it would take to inspire others to follow India's innovative technology led model for equitable collaborative and democratic growth.
