Abstract

GetKonnected! began in 2008 as a bimonthly networking and evolved into five initiatives in 2020-2021: GK! Network, GK Fund, GK Market, GK! Execu-Search, and GK! Job Hub. Each tackled an aspect of economic equity; “twin pandemics” of COVID-19 and systemic racism had significantly impacted minority-owned small businesses and threatened already-vulnerable communities of color. Phillips had overcome numerous obstacles in building GetKonnected!! and experienced some of the racial and gender bias in Boston. How she could capitalize on the momentum created by the city’s changes? What more should be done to drive systemic change?
