Ureed.com: The Marketplace for Language
Abstract
This case explores the growth of Ureed, an online marketplace for translation services that is powered by a workforce consisting of remote freelancers who are based in the United Arab Emirates. Nour Al Hassan, the founder and CEO faced the challenge of how best to incentivize and motivate an entirely remote workforce of highly-educated mothers working primarily project-to-project. In this case, students will discuss strategies for attracting, motivating, and retaining contract workers and employees—like Al Hassan’s—who complete their work entirely from home. This case allows for a rich discussion of how to effectively design virtual workplaces, with a unique emphasis on the role of educational and personal factors in shaping what virtual and contract workers desire from their jobs.
