Abstract

This publication is an outcome of the team's research, engagement and interactions with over 25 science and technology-based social enterprises in India. It provides details on the research process, insightful outcomes and innovative impact.
Throughout the different narratives, several themes occur. These include the deep commitment of leaders running these organizations towards their target customer – the society at large. The virtues of efficiency and effective utilization of limited funds form the core of a social enterprise. Innovation plays an important role in facilitating this process. The enterprises featured in this publication have attempted to balance use of science and technology on one hand and proactive community engagement on the other. Their ideas and approaches make insightful reading and provide a glimpse into the innumerable ways in which science and technology can contribute to social welfare through the entrepreneurial route. The publication is an attempt at sharing the team's learning experience with fellow academics, practitioners, policy makers and social entrepreneurs.
