PRIMO has been designed to bring together a select group of motivated undergraduates interested in getting exposure to business research on a variety of cutting-edge ideas. The primary goal of the program is to build and foster a strong community of scholars committed to excellence in research as part of the Harvard Summer Undergraduate Research Village. In the pursuit of its educational mission, Harvard Business School strongly encourages applications from under-represented groups.

The program is now entering its eleventh year. The tentative program dates for Summer 2021 are June 5, 2021 to August 14, 2021. If the program is offered in person in summer of 2021, PRIMO fellows will be offered Harvard campus housing, a partial board plan, and a modest research stipend. If the program is offered virtually, PRIMO fellows will receive a modest research stipend. As part of the community of researchers, students will participate in enrichment activities such as faculty lectures, professional development workshops, presentation opportunities, and social events.

PRIMO is open to continuing students (those who will be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors at the time of the program) who are in good standing at a 4-year undergraduate institution in the United States. Students must commit to the full ten weeks of the program.

Student applications for the 2021 program are now open and will be due on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 12:00 pm EST. For complete application instructions, see Apply.

In the summer of 2020, PRIMO was offered virtually, and fellows worked on research projects with faculty and participated in all activities via Zoom from their homes. Whether the program will be offered virtually again or on campus has not yet been determined. The COVID-19 outbreak is evolving daily, and we simply cannot predict what may occur in the next few weeks and months. The decision will be made by the Harvard Summer Undergraduate Research Village and will be announced on this webpage as soon as we have more details. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the academic world in times of a global pandemic.
