Martabel Wasserman
Tea Time with Daisy, 2003
Martabel Wasserman's photographs conflate collage and diorama in psychologically charged dollhouse interiors. As she describes: "In this series, I used my childhood dollhouse as a means to describe the safety and comfort that a typical American household invokes. Within the dollhouse I explore societal expectations specifically relating to war, violence, sex and gender roles in this country. I place pictures of contrasting realities into the windows of the dollhouse to highlight our distance from the rest of the world."
