“The vintage comic books I paint are old. Most are from the 1950s, '60s, and '70s….They belonged to someone, were valued and preserved, and today are collectors' items. Some show wrinkles and wear, while others still look pretty new. I paint them using trompe l'oeil techniques in order to present them as physical objects. As the collaborative effort of writers, artists, letterers, editors, and printers, they are the material artifacts of some of the best of American popular culture.”—Sharon Moody
